In the Christmas holidays, I took apart a old broken printer.
This was my first insight into a commercial printing device. It featured both a printer and a scanner, both with different mechanisms. With what I learned from these photos, I would plan out the assembly of the plotter.
What is interesting is that the printer does not use a stepper motor, but a simple DC motor. This would suggest that the printer head wouldn't be able to track it's position. After careful observation I found that there is a band of transparent plastic that runs along the width of the printer. Somehow there is some kind of light sensitive device on the printer head. Who'd a thunk it...
