Here you can see the way the axis join, and there is a quite clear view of the sliding mechanism recycled from the scanner

This shows the shorter axis clearly and how the belt and pulleys are mounted. The opposite side to the bar moves on a wheel, also recycled from an old scanner.

You can see how the pen slides along the bar here, also the wires going under the piece of wood are for the relay. There are two nuts stopping the pen from coming up too far. The reason there are two is that when there is one, it slowly moves down the bolt until the pen cannot move up or down. This is because of the shake caused by the motors. Using two nuts solves this problem.

The red thing in the foreground is the USB to Serial converting chip. This was a real life saver.

I wanted to use ribbon cables for the motors and relays because I think the look nice and they also hold their shape better than single wires

Here you can see that I recycled rubber washers from one of the printers that I took apart, where the motor is screwed on the block. This is to reduce vibrations.
